Watch: Red Band Trailer & 6 Clips From '2 Guns' Starring Mark Wahlberg & Denzel Washington Plus Lots Of New Pics

With the movie coming to theaters in just a few days, the final push for "2 Guns" is now underway. Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington headline the action comedy, which might be enough for many to buy tickets, but in case it isn't, Universal has a bit more to show you from the upcoming film.

6 clips and a brand new red band trailer from the movie have dropped online along with a big batch of pics from the movie. Based on the graphic novel series and directed by Baltasar Kormakur ("Contraband," "The Deep"), the movie follows?two undercover operatives from competing bureaus who are forced on the run together. And it seems their shenanigans see them cross the paths of both drug dealers and cops while they try to get along with each other, all at the same time.

Anyway, see the six clips below which promise a lot bickering and one-liners, along with a batch of new pics. "2 Guns" opens on Friday, and we've got a prize pack for the film as well, just hit Facebook for the details. [Blackfilm/IGN]

Stop rummaging through the Facebook profiles of shooting victims

The shooting death of 18-year-old Sammy Yatim by Toronto police on Friday demands answers, but those answers are not likely to come from the teenager?s online profiles.

Yatim was fatally wounded after a standoff with police early Saturday, after he brandished a knife on a stopped streetcar near Toronto?s Trinity Bellwoods Park. Video and eyewitnesses confirm that he was alone on the streetcar, police officers surrounding the streetcar with their guns drawn. After repeatedly telling Yatim to ?drop the knife,? police fired as many as nine shots at the young man. They also deployed a conducted energy weapon. He died of his injuries that night.

That?s pretty much all we know at this time, and even Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair says he?s waiting for answers from an SIU investigation. But that hasn?t stopped people from digging through Yatim?s Facebook photos looking for clues.

Screenshots of the deceased teen?s Facebook profile, taken shortly after his death, are already making the rounds on Reddit. Yatim?s cover image showed automatic rifles, and there are photos of Yatim and his friends posing with bottles of alcohol and pointing finger guns at the camera. This apparently reveals ?the tough guy and tough guy friends mimicking firing handguns at ya and all around acting like bullies,? according to Reddit user mentalhealthproblems ? an account apparently started just for the sake of vilifying Yatim.

Another Redditor suggested the Facebook profile ? of a teen acting like a teen ? was proof he was up to no good.

?Now we know he wasn?t mentally ill, just a douchebag trying to act tough,? wrote user machi88.

We?ve been down this road before. Following the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida, photos purporting to show Martin acting like a ?thug? were dredged up as proof that he was at fault. One conservative site even spread a photo of another black teen as evidence of Martin?s seediness.

In the cases of Amanda Todd and Rehtaeh Parsons, both teen girls who killed themselves after long struggles with bullying, journalists and trolls both found online profiles and attempted to glean meaning from the photos and missives contained therein. The only conclusion to be drawn, of course, is that they were both teenage girls living imperfect, though largely normal, lives. The tragedy of their suicides remained largely unanswered.

In the case of the streetcar shooting this weekend, some people have pointed out that Yatim?s Facebook page was altered after his death. The AK-47s disappeared, leaving a sanitized profile behind. This, of course, tells us absolutely nothing other than sometimes grieving families might want a say in how their dead child is remembered and depicted.

There is a place for scrolling through someone?s social media accounts. In Sweden, two teenagers took a photo of themselves before they allegedly robbed a local store of $400. Similarly, people have been arrested and tragedies averted based on the threatening posts they have made on their Facebook accounts.

There is a difference between meaningful news that can offer insight into tragedy, and the peddling of meaningless tidbits of normal childhood. Sometimes Facebook sleuthing doesn?t actually advance the story.

How would you spend a windfall?

A large, unexpected sum of money is a dream many of us have. The amount you gain should determine how you spend it.?

By Trent Hamm,?Guest blogger / July 28, 2013

A worker counts US dollar bills inside a money changer in Manila in April. According to Hamm, getting the most out of an unexpected windfall means having different strategies for spending various amounts.

It?s a natural human dream that many of us have. Something happens and suddenly a substantial chunk of money falls on our lap ? enough to change the dynamics of our life in some fashion.

The Simple Dollar is a blog for those of us who need both cents and sense: people fighting debt and bad spending habits while building a financially secure future and still affording a latte or two. Our busy lives are crazy enough without having to compare five hundred mutual funds ? we just want simple ways to manage our finances and save a little money.

For a lot of people, a windfall would be used to pay off debts. That mortgage would disappear, as would those credit card debts.

For others (even many of the people with debts), a big splurge would be in order. It?s time for a shiny new truck or a big trip or a new speedboat.

That eliminates most of the people who would receive a windfall.

What about the rest of us, though? Neither of those options really apply to me. I don?t have any debts to pay off (thank goodness!), nor do I have a desire for any sort of big splurge. Even if I could, I wouldn?t go out and buy a new vehicle today, nor would I start packing my bags for a trip to New Zealand or something. I might eventually travel, but I?d still plan for it, regardless of how much money I have.

This begs the question, then: what would I do with a windfall?

My gameplan would be different depending on the amount, so let?s walk through those amounts.

If the windfall were less than $250,000 after taxes, I would fund my savings for various long-term goals. As I?ve mentioned before, I?m already saving for things like international vacations for my children when they get older, their college educations, and other initiatives. I would use a relatively small windfall to make sure all of those goals were well-funded.

If the windfall were less than $750,000 after taxes, I would also build our dream home. This is another long term goal we?re saving for, but this kind of money would enable us to start building now rather than later.

Our ideal home is in a rural environment with some wooded areas on our land as a nature preserve of sorts. It would be built from the ground up to be incredibly energy efficient, ideally so that it could be fully self-sustaining in terms of energy use with excess going back out onto the energy grid. We?re not interested in an extremely large home ? in fact, our floor plan wouldn?t be too different than the one we currently have except with only two floors instead of three (as our parents are getting old and our current floor plan has no main-floor sleeping areas).

Once we have the cash on hand to build this, we?re going to move forward with it.

If the windfall were more than $1.5 million after taxes, Sarah and I would both walk away from our day-to-day work. I?d love to be able to solely focus on writing fiction as well as on volunteer opportunities in our community. Sarah would probably be hard-pressed to walk away from her professional passions, so she?d likely seek another outlet for her teaching skills.

Any amounts between $750,000 and $1.5 million would go solely toward funding an early retirement.

This seems boring, doesn?t it? There are no big splurges (aside from the house, but that?s just fulfillment of a goal that we?re already working on). Instead, it?s all about either saving for the future or investing in real estate. What?s the fun in that?

For us, the fun is being financially secure and enjoying the lack of stress plus the knowledge that our long-term goals will happen because the money is already set aside for them. That is worth its weight in gold to us. There is no splurge, to either myself or Sarah, that?s more fulfilling than having that.

It might be boring, but it?s also very low-stress and incredibly fulfilling over the long term. I wouldn?t have it any other way.

South African rand softer, month-end import pressure seen

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's rand was softer against the dollar in early Monday trade, retreating a few cents after Reserve Bank data showed growth in credit extension to the private sector slowed again in June.

The data backs the case for the Reserve Bank to consider another interest rate cut - rates have been steady since the last reduction in 2012 - to boost consumer demand and spur economic growth.

By 0645 GMT the rand was at 9.8200 against the dollar, down 0.55 percent from its New York close at 9.7660 on Friday.

The rand could extend losses as importers make their usual end-of-month external payments.

"Today is the usual month-end corporate activity day and therefore we do expect a bit more from the demand side of the market, from a local perspective that is," Standard Bank trader Warrick Butler said.

The rand pulled back from 9.7950 just before a Reserve Bank report released at 0600 GMT showed that growth in credit demand from the private sector slowed to 8.91 percent year-on-year in June from 9.05 percent in May.

Government bonds were little changed from Friday levels, with the yields for the benchmark issue due in 2026 and the 2015 paper each edging up half a basis point to 8.175 percent and 6.2 percent respectively. (Reporting by Stella Mapenzauswa; editing by David Dolan)

1 body found, 1 person missing in NY boat crash

PIERMONT, N.Y. (AP) ? Brian Bond was disoriented from head trauma and in darkness when he awoke from unconsciousness soon after the speedboat he was in with his fiancee and four friends smashed into a construction barge on New York's Hudson River, hurling the bride-to-be and Bond's best man into the water.

Bond used his cellphone to call 911 late Friday night, and first responders relied on heat-seeking technology to locate the boat just south of the Tappan Zee Bridge, authorities said.

On Saturday, a woman's body matching the description of 30-year-old Lindsey Stewart was pulled from the water. Authorities haven't yet released a positive identification.

Stewart and Bond, friends since childhood, were to be married in two weeks, on Aug. 10.

Bond's best man, Mark Lennon, 30, remains missing and is presumed dead, authorities said. Emergency crews planned to continue their search for him Sunday.

Jojo John, who was operating the boat, was charged Saturday with vehicular manslaughter and three counts of vehicular assault from a hospital bed where he was recovering from his injuries in the crash, said Chief William Barbera of the Rockland County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities said they suspect the 35-year-old Nyack man was intoxicated at the time of the crash; they were awaiting the results of blood tests. Attempts to reach John's family were not immediately successful and it was not clear if he had an attorney.

Barbera declined to identify the other two people aboard the boat and had no information on their condition. The two and Bond also remained hospitalized Saturday night.

The group had left the village of Piermont for a short trip aboard the 21-foot Stingray across the river to Tarrytown, about 30 miles north of New York City, authorities said.

Stewart and Lennon were thrown from the boat when it struck a barge carrying materials for the construction of a replacement for the Tappan Zee Bridge, authorities said. Barbera said the barge was equipped with lights, but it was still difficult to see on the water late at night.

Stewart, of Piermont, worked for an insurance company. She and Bond were to be married at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River, with a reception at a vineyard in Hillburn, her stepfather Walter Kosik said.

The couple had known one another for years and used to go to church together, he said.

"They have been friends the whole time, and they fell in love about 3 ? years ago," Kosik said.

Stewart's former English teacher at Pearl River High School, who remained in contact with her through Facebook, called the accident "heartbreaking."

"She was one of my students and a bright, sweet girl loved by everyone," said Doreen Arney. "I knew that she was getting married, and to Brian. To happen to two such special kids ? it just shouldn't happen."

The New York State Thruway Authority, which is overseeing the bridge project, said it was reviewing safety procedures. It said the lighting on the barges appeared to be functioning normally.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this difficult time," the authority said in a statement.

Twitter vs. Flying Cars

You've probably heard that line from Peter Thiel:

We wanted flying cars, instead we got 140 characters.

That line expressed his disappointment about how technology has turned out.

Now, when rich libertarian entrepreneurs, especially ones I admire as I do Thiel, talk, I listen. I also evaluate.

So does Joshua Gans.

On flying cars, Gans writes:

Let's start with flying cars. We should question the premise of whether we want flying cars. We would like quicker and less constrained options from getting from A to B but flying around in a car, while it may be a representation of the future with such freedom, when you think about it, cannot really deliver that value, at least in cities. Indeed, the fact that flying cars do not exist where they might be of value -- in less dense areas -- leads us to question whether people want them at all. This is at least enough to give us pause on the issue.

And Twitter? Gans writes:
Twitter is not just 140 characters. It is a new communications network. The best example of this is how you can communicate with customer support of companies. When you have a problem with, say, an airline, it is often easier to tweet about it and wait for the airline to respond than to contact the airline's support number. Now this is currently an advantage from congestion but, in reality, you can see how it may be superior overall. First, complaints are limited to 140 characters. That is a feature, not a bug. That means if a company is getting lots of complaints about something, it can see it really quickly. Second, it is easier to find a way of communicating with a company via Twitter than searching for support numbers. It is just straightforward. Twitter is an address book with easy search. My point here is that Twitter is a new communications protocol and more than just social media. That puts it on a path to something more than just the trivial.

Healthy Self Improvement Tips For Creative Personal Growth | make ...

Self improvement is about bettering yourself and taking on things that improve upon who you are as a person. Fulfilling personal goals, gaining self awareness and developing your spirituality are all important for self improvement. This article is your source for top-flight self-improvement strategies. Remember, begin you personal development journey slowly, and, before long, you will begin to understand more about yourself.

Hang out with people who are similar to you. This will help you to have a better attitude and maintain it as well as keeping you away from bad people that aren?t behind your dreams and goals.

When dealing with personal development, not making a decision means forgoing an opportunity. You should not avoid decision making, even if you feel that you do not have all the information. Your good instincts will develop through your successful decisions. You will make the wrong decision sometimes. Use those mistakes as a chance to learn something new. When you make the wrong choices, you know what better choices to make in the future.

Try and surround yourself with people who think like you do. Like-minded people will help strengthen your resolve while reinforcing positive attitudes.

TIP! You must know your own values to come up with a personal development plan. Devoting attention to things that undermine your value system is foolish.

Try and find what is in the way of you becoming a success. Sometimes, this can be a difficult job for you to see on your own. To be successful at personal development, start by pinpointing any areas of weakness and target these areas for improvement. When you are able to get rid of obstacles, then your path to a successful future becomes easier to navigate.

Be more productive at work by getting the most out of your time there. This trick involves taking more breaks when working. It may seem counterintuitive, but you can actually increase your productivity by taking frequent breaks. That way, you will be refreshed when you return to work and motivated to produce at a much higher level.

Put your core beliefs into practice. Your personal beliefs create the foundation for who you are. When you consistently practice these, you will gain confidence and believe in yourself. Sticking to your beliefs will also provide your life with greater consistency in every aspect, making life more manageable and you more admirable.

Write a pep talk for yourself. Write down everything you like about yourself. Keep it handy, and when you need a little motivation, read it. For even more powerful results, record a video of yourself reading your list and watch it frequently. This might sound silly but it really helps.

TIP! If the quality level of today is 2000, try to make tomorrow?s quality level 2001 or higher. Keep aiming higher and higher.

Identifying your personal values are the stepping stone to figuring out a personal development plan that works for you. If you go against your values, you are shooting yourself in the foot. When your efforts are focused on development that is aligned with your core values, your time and effort will be rewarded. If you do this, you can make lifelong positive changes, both personally and professionally.

Create an emergency fund. Many people think that a credit card counts as an emergency fund. Putting a few dollars a week into an emergency fund will add up over time. This will be able to get you through a short term crisis like unemployment or a large unexpected health care bill.

Ask others about their achievements instead of boasting about your own. You?ll be able to find out about the wonderful things the people you know have accomplished, bringing about a new-found respect and admiration for them.

TIP! People should not be afraid to investigate professional therapy to deal with serious problems. Though self-help books and online resources are great, they typically will not offer as much as a one-on-one therapy session can.

Treat everyone with respect, no matter what they can do or how much power those people may have. The treatment you show them is not a reflection of their character but of yours.

Eating more complex carbohydrates can actually help you deal with depression. If you are not getting enough carbs, you might have a low serotonin level. Raw vegetables along with fresh fruits, whole grains and nuts are good sources of complex carbohydrates.

Self improvement requires you to become more aware of the events in your life. You can use the advice given here to help you figure out what it is you need to change, and how to track those changes. Writing in your personal journal can help you keep track of what new behaviors you?re implementing and what changes you notice in yourself as a result.

Talking to a counselor or a religious leader can help you relieve stress. These professionals are trained and experienced in helping you understand and manage the issues you have. Their job is to listen to you and your concerns and help you gain a new outlook on your situation. Sharing your issues with such an adviser can result in a greater sense of peace and wisdom.

TIP! Take stock of your alcohol use to see if you are drinking too much. Do you make a habit of smoking or engaging in other harmful vices? Our body is a temple, and therefore it should be treated like one.

NY Power Authority Awards $5.5 Million to West Seneca Firm to Support a NYPA-Niagara University Shared Campus Initiative

July 27, 2013 Updated Jul 27, 2013 at 1:58 PM EDT

WHITE PLAINS?The New York Power Authority (NYPA) trustees on Tuesday approved a two-year competitive contract award worth $5.5 million to Edbauer Construction of West Seneca, N.Y., to implement a comprehensive plan to upgrade and enhance the facilities, roadways and parking lots that connect NYPA?s Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant and the Niagara University Campus.

The shared campus initiative includes the realignment and reconstruction of roads and parking lots, covering approximately 20 acres of shared property between the two campuses. Specifically, the project will improve lighting, grading and drainage on the roads and will also include the construction of a mile-long bicycle and pedestrian path that will connect NYPA?s Power Vista visitors center with Reservoir State Park.

The project will also add three security cameras to enhance the safety of NYPA visitors and students in the shared Power Vista parking lots. As part of the project, the university entrance-way will be redesigned and enhanced with a new rock wall sign, including lighting and plantings.

?From the standpoint of safety and security alone this is a great project, and it has the added benefit of opening up access to a host of recreational activities, that I myself am planning to take full advantage of,? said Harry Francois, NYPA Western New York regional manager. ?We are especially pleased that the improvements are being undertaken by a local business.?

?The Power Authority has always been a great neighbor to Niagara University and this project is just one example of the ways in which the university has benefited from that relationship,? said the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., president of Niagara University. ?We are particularly grateful to have the Power Authority?s support with these much needed improvements to this infrastructure and our shared roadways.?

?We appreciate the opportunity to work on this project which will benefit the university and the many visitors to the Power Authority?s visitors center,? said Bill Bauer, president, Edbauer Construction. ?Our work with the Power Authority started in 2007 and has allowed our business to grow and thrive in Western New York and has also permitted us to channel significant economic benefits to a number of western NY firms we subcontract with for trucking, electrical and other needs outside our core business.?

In addition to supplying low-cost Niagara hydropower to Niagara University, NYPA and Niagara University have a relationship that spans more than half a century. Under an agreement in connection with the 2007 federal relicensing of the Niagara Hydroelectric, NYPA established a $9.5 million capital fund to be used at the discretion of the university; established a landscaping development fund worth $1 million; and transferred ownership of approximately 24 acres of vacant land to the university.

Work on the Shared Campus Initiative is expected to begin this summer and conclude by the end of 2014.

Hot Hamptons: Beach home sales go through roof

hamptons

The wealthy are flocking to the beach this summer?and so is their money.

Real estate sales in Long Island's Hamptons hit a record in the second quarter, according to a report from brokerage firm Douglas Elliman and Miller Samuel, the appraisal and research firm. Sales for the quarter came to $1.145 billion, up 23 percent from last year's second quarter, which totaled $929.4 million.

The second-quarter total is the highest since Miller Samuel began tracking the Hamptons market in 2005, according to Jonathan Miller, the company's president and CEO.

"It was a surprisingly strong quarter," he said.

The average sale price in the Hamptons was $1.7 million?roughly the same as last year. But the number of homes available is falling fast?declining 13 percent in the quarter. The average sale price in Sagaponack hit $11 million, making it among the most expensive areas in the country.

(Read more: Summer rentals hit $1 million in the Hamptons)

Brokers say there were several factors driving sales. First, Wall Street and the financial services industry is seeing strong profits and compensation, which traditionally drives the Hamptons market.

Stronger stock markets have also boosted the fortunes of non-Wall Street buyers and investors looking for a place to invest their cash.

(Read more:They're back! $100 million homes)

But Paul Brennan, a broker with Douglas Elliman in the Hamptons, said that many wealthy buyers pulled the trigger in the second quarter because of the sudden rise in interest rates, which also started driving up mortgage rates.

"They saw that spike and decided that it was time to get off the sidelines," he said. "They realized they might never have a better time to buy."

Among the big sales being talked about during the quarter was hedge fund manager Steven Cohen's purchase of a $60 million oceanfront home in East Hampton. While the deal was expected to close in the second quarter, it wasn't recorded in time for the second-quarter sales tally, Miller said.

The big strength in the quarter came from what Hamptons brokers call "entry level" homes?those priced between $1 million and $5 million. These homes accounted for about 40 percent of the sales total.
